About
Timothy M. Todd, Ph.D., serves as Associate Dean for Faculty Development & Scholarship and Professor of Law at Liberty University School of Law in Lynchburg, Virginia. He also serves as the Director of the Wealth Management and Financial Planning Program at Liberty Law, which has the distinction of being the first exclusively JD-based CFP Board registered program in the country.
He earned his Ph.D. in personal financial planning from Kansas State University; he also earned a Master of Science in Applied Economics (with a concentration in Financial Economics) from Johns Hopkins University. He is also lawyer and a certified public accountant (his law and CPA licenses are in Virginia), and he holds the Chartered Financial Consultant® designation and Personal Financial Specialist (PFS) credential.
He graduated ranked first in his law school class and served as managing editor of the law review. He formerly clerked for the U.S. Court of Federal Claims in Washington, DC.
His areas of teaching include income taxation; estate & gift taxation; wills, trusts, & estates; financial planning; business planning; mergers & acquisitions; and other transactional law courses.
He serves as a regular Forbes contributor, writing about taxes, tax planning, tax cases, and related areas.
He has been quoted in outlets such as Bloomberg, Bloomberg BNA Daily Tax Report, Accounting Today, and Tax Notes. He has written in an array of publications including Tax Notes, State Tax Notes, Texas A&M Law Review, Virginia Tax Review, University of Pittsburgh Law Review, Marquette Law Review, the American Bankruptcy Institute Law Review, the Journal of Taxation, the University of Kansas Law Review, the South Carolina Law Review, the Charleston Law Review, the Journal of Tax Practice and Procedure, and the Liberty University Law Review.
