Abstract

Couples may think their problem is about communication, conflict resolution, or sexual difficulties, but an insecure attachment bond is often at the root of the problem. Attachment theory provides a new way to think about love relationships. EFT is based on attachment theory, which helps us understand the key to happy, satisfying relationships: a secure emotional bond where partners feel deeply connected. Insecure attachment bonds result in using negative interactions in an effort to reestablish connection. Participants will understand how to conceptualize couple distress, review the stages of EFT for couples, and have treatment suggestions to foster corrective emotional experiences.

Couples may think their problem is about communication, conflict resolution, or sexual difficulties, but an insecure attachment bond is often at the root of these problems. We will share how attachment theory provides a new way to think about love relationships. Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) is based on attachment theory, which helps us understand that the key to happy, satisfying relationships is a secure emotional bond where partners feel deeply connected. Insecure attachment bonds often cause couples to use negative interactional patterns in an effort to reestablish connection. We will help you understand how to conceptualize couple distress, review the stages of EFT for couples, and give you specific treatment suggestions to foster corrective emotional experiences between partners.
