N2 - In 2017, 24 female Liberty University Department of Theatre Arts students set out to create more substantial roles for women in theatre by writing and performing an original play about some of Virginia’s most compelling women. This play was the result and I was grateful to direct it. Arguably the most talented and dedicated group of artists I’ve ever worked with. Kennedy Center/American College Theatre Festival (KC/ACTF) honored the acting, directing, writing, and sent it on to regional competition. On top of that, the department worked with Cinematic Arts faculty to capture the show at an incredible quality. The show is now available for streaming: Bloodroot: The Ballad of Clinch Mountain – Liberty University . It was in 2018 that it was invited to be performed in the KC/ACTF Region IV Convention, and in 2019, KC/ACTF honored the production with a national award: “Distinguished Performance of a New Play.” A great memory.
