Abstract

College experiences provide numerous opportunities for students to expand horizons and explore ideas. These experiences often lead to investigating important life issues, such as finding purpose and meaning in life, defining one’s worldview, developing a personal identity, finding safety and security, and finding a job after graduation. Student may also begin to explore more profound issues, such as understanding why human suffering occurs. Existentially speaking, this exploration of ideas and reorientation to new concepts is centered in the spiritual dimension of being human. Counselors are uniquely positioned and trained to assist students in their existential journeys. This article will explore these concerns, as well as provide suggestions and resources in seeking answers to these existential concerns.
